Family Favorites // September 2016

9.30.2016

I decided to share some of our family's favorite things on the last weekend of each month. This can be a fun insight into our life and give you some great ideas for your family as well!

Chachi has been listening a lot lately to a folk singer named Joan Shelley. He says she has such a clear and simple voice, like folk singers from the 60's.

This is Chachi's current favorite song she sings...

Check out her YouTube channel HERE.

This month was my birthday and I got so many great things, but a big favorite was an Instant Pot. I have used it 3 times in the past week! It's a slow cooker, rice cooker, steamer, yogurt maker, and pressure cooker all in one! It's a dinnertime GAME CHANGER! I'll be sharing recipes for it here in the future.

If you get one I recommend joining this Facebook Group.  They are very active and share recipes and tips and are so helpful.  I also got this cookbook to go with it, although it comes with a cookbook to get you started and there's always Pinterest.

I also spend nights when I can't sleep (every night) watching cookie videos on Instagram by SweetAmbs.  They are so cool!

Chicken is almost 12 years old! She is a redhead born with WHITE eyelashes and eyebrows.  This month we got her lashes tinted by a local beautician and it made SUCH a huge difference! I really like it because when we tried mascara (even waterproof mascara) it would get smudged and smear under her eyes by the end of school.  This is also more subtle.  We are loving it!

It was only $15 and it is supposed to last 6 weeks. Look at the before and after! If you're in Davis County in Utah I highly recommend Staci Potter Studio, but you should be able to find this near you no matter where you live.

Banjo and her older sister have recently started in a local Musical Theater program called PITCHED PERFECTLY. They are absolutely loving it! What's nice is that they sing both traditional songs AND more current songs.  It's been tricky finding an extracurricular for a non-sporty kid and this really fits the bill!  I really love that she is getting a certain amount of team-building skills without having to be responsible for the winning goal in a sport. If you live in the Davis County, Utah area I highly recommend it.  It's $75/month for one child and then there's a sibling discount.

Bonkers is just about to turn 6 and is all about learning to read and being read to.  Her surrent favorite book is The Sneetches and Other Stories by Dr. Seuss.  It's got two of MY favorites inside, Too Many Daves and What Was I Afraid of? Speaking of What Was I Afraid Of? it's one of our family's favorite stories and is great for Halloween and all year round. I am always surprised that more people haven't heard of it!  You have to check it out. We have a board book version AND this larger glow-in-the-dark version.

This kid is obsessed with Blaze and the Monster Machines on Nick Jr.  He has this flap book and he takes it everywhere, even to sleep with him!  His birthday is this coming week and I bought him this Play-Doh Diggin' Rigs Playset. He loves Paly-Doh and construction vehicles so I'm sure it will be a win.

We found this tutorial for a homemade Digger Costume for Halloween online and I am totally going to attempt it.  Am I crazy? (photo and tutorial by Mama Say What)

This monkey turned 2 this week!!  I made her this Mini Rice Crispy Cake with lots of sprinkles and got a lot of questions about how I did it online so I will do a tutorial here.  It was SO easy! The mini cake plate is from Target Dollar spot (it was $5).

She is in love with Peppa Pig and we bought her this Peppa Pig Play House.  She LOVES it!

My 2 year old is obsessed with diggers and play doh so I'm so glad you posted that play doh machine! I went to Amazon and there are a whole bunch more in that line. I know what Santa is bringing! :)

Hi, I am a lap swimmer 5 days a week for a lot of years. I buy my mascara at Macy's in the cosmetic department. It is Lancome De`finicils waterprof. $27.00 a tube. I love this mascara. It stays on so good it actually has to be scrubed off. Even if you blink and it ends up underneat the eyes. No more raccoon looking eyes.
Just an FYI! Sharon M.
