Family Favorites // May 2016

6.11.2016

I decided to share some of our family's favorite things on the last Saturday of each month (this was up for an hour on that day and then somehow unpublished itself...? So I'm putting it back up today). This can be a fun insight into our life and give you some great ideas for your family as well!

This January, Chachi bought mountain bikes for him and myself.  While I have been patting myself on the back for weekly 3 mile rides, my husband has been doing nightly, epic, 18 mile, rides!  Along with this new obsession comes a love of biking gear.  His current favorite bike toy is the  Axiom Lazer 200 LED HeadlightIt's really bright, has different brightness settings, holds a charge for a long time, and it's easy to take on and off the bike. When you're done your ride you can charge it with a USB charging chord.

I am currently obsessing over the film previews of Me Before You.  If you have not read the book Me Before You then you must...right now! Then, the minute you are done, read the sequel After You.  Sooooo good, you guys.

Also, I can't stop watching mini episodes of Random Acts.  It's a new show on BYUtv where hosts perform Random Acts of Kindness for strangers.  This clip made me tear up a little at the end!

Chicken has been devouring the Michael Vey book series lately. It is written by Richard Paul Evans and she loves (and I do too) that the main character has a disability (Tourette’s syndrome) since my daughter has Generalized Anxiety Disorder.  Besides that coolness, these books are fantastic!

Banjo saved up her allowance and bought this Crayola Stop-Animation Studio.  It's pretty darn cool. You have to have an iPhone or iPad though.

Bonkers just graduated from Pre-School.  She got a little report card and it was stellar.  All signs pointed to the fact that my kids is a Super-Genius....except she can't rhyme. Wha??? Aren't people born with the ability to rhyme?  As it turns out...rhyming is really important for literacy.  Who knew?

We pulled the very best rhyming books from our bookshelf and she is loving reading them every night.  Of course they are all by Doctor Seuss.  Her favorites are Green Eggs and Ham and There's a Wocket in my Pocket (her teacher said this one is especially good because they need to know that nonsense words rhyme too).

McMudo cannot stop watching Blaze and the Monster Machines! It's like some evil genius came up with the ultimate boy show and put it on TV.

This baby has a new and passionate love for Big Block Sing Song.  It's a collection of really funny, short, songs with animation that plays between shows on Disney Jr.  This one is my favorite...

We have the DVD of Season 1 and we love it.  It's really non-annoying to parents too!  I also just bought the digital albums of the Greatest Hits Volume 1 and Greatest Hits Volume 2.  You should check it out.  Watch this YouTube clip and this one (this is the best to sing along to!) to get a feel for how fun these songs are!

THE ENTIRE FAMILY:

We watched season one of Battle Bots (airing on ABC) all together and now Season 2 is on. Oh my gosh, it is SO FUN! I swear to you, after Season one, both of my super-femmy daughters expressed interest in Engineering.
