A while back I shared a list of 8 LDS Talks that Changed My Life. The response has been overwhelming! I asked for my readers to share the talks that had changed THEIR life and let me just say...you guys LOVE Elder Holland! I may have to make him his very own list!
I am happily collecting these wonderful, inspiring, uplifting talks that have touched your hearts.
Here is the first installment of Reader Favorites. Please PIN and SHARE and spread the love!
"But If Not"
This is a wonderful talk on true faith in God. It requires trusting in him even if things didn’t turn out the way we hoped or even prayed for. This is a talk and a lesson we can all apply. When I struggled with infertility I thought to myself, "I'm not praying to win the lottery! This is a righteous desire. Why won't He answer?" I needed the faith so beautifully described in the talk.
Favorite Quote: "Our God will deliver us from ridicule and persecution, but if not. … Our God will deliver us from sickness and disease, but if not … . He will deliver us from loneliness, depression, or fear, but if not. … Our God will deliver us from threats, accusations, and insecurity, but if not. … He will deliver us from death or impairment of loved ones, but if not, … we will trust in the Lord."
"One Step after Another"
by Elder Joseph B. Wirthlin
Topic: Overcoming Obstacles
This is a talk about climbing to higher spirituality, while remaining imperfect. This is a message we all need! I know I need a reminder, as a mother, that progressing forward, even when it is difficult, is more important than being "perfect". Mistakes are a part of the plan of our Heavenly Father and we just need to keep going.
Favorite Quote: "We don’t have to be perfect today. We don’t have to be better than someone else. All we have to do is to be the very best we can."
"Mothers Who Know"
by Julie B Beck
I think a lot of women (and especially Mothers) will remember this talk. Sister Beck gives a talk filled with ways to become more righteous mothers including simplifying, teaching, leadership, and many more! This is a truly life changing talks for Latter-day Saint mothers.
Favorite Quote: "Who will prepare this righteous generation of sons and daughters? Latter-day Saint women will do this—women who know and love the Lord and bear testimony of Him, women who are strong and immovable and who do not give up during difficult and discouraging times. We are led by an inspired prophet of God who has called upon the women of the Church to “stand strong and immovable for that which is correct and proper under the plan of the Lord.”6 He has asked us to “begin in [our] own homes”7 to teach children the ways of truth."
"Beware of Pride"
by President Ezra Taft Benson
Topic: Pride, Jealousy, and Self-Esteem
When I was serving as a missionary, my Mission President required the missionaries to read this talk each and every month. When you read it (or watch Gordon B. Hinckley read it...he read it for President Benson at his request) you understand how deeply President Benson feels about this topic. He sites it as the source of all sin and many of today's problems.
Favorite Quote: "The proud depend upon the world to tell them whether they have value or not. Their self-esteem is determined by where they are judged to be on the ladders of worldly success. They feel worthwhile as individuals if the numbers beneath them in achievement, talent, beauty, or intellect are large enough. Pride is ugly. It says, 'If you succeed, I am a failure.' If we love God, do His will, and fear His judgment more than men’s, we will have self-esteem. "
"A Reservoir of Living Water"
by Elder David A. Bednar
Topic: Scripture Study
This is an excellent talk that clearly outlines why we desperately need to feast upon the scriptures in order to have the Spirit with us, enrich our lives, and have access to Jesus Christ's teachings. He also explores three different ways to study the scriptures and gives the benefit of each method as well as helpful hints to getting the most out of each area of study. This would be a great talk to go over with youth in helping them know how to best study the scriptures and the importance of doing so.
Favorite Quote: "The scriptures contain the words of Christ and are a reservoir of living water to which we have ready access and from which we can drink deeply and long. You and I must look to and come unto Christ, who is 'the fountain of living waters', by reading, studying, searching, and feasting upon the words of Christ as contained in the holy scriptures. By so doing, we can receive both spiritual direction and protection during our mortal journey."

"Forget Me Not"
Topic: Personal Worth and Strength
I remember when this talk was first given, social media blew up with quotes and printables and praise for it. And there's good reason. President Uchtdorf give 5 lessons to not forget and that will bring us happiness and joy. The talk is peppered with the love of God towards his daughters on earth.
Favorite Quote: "Sisters, wherever you are, whatever your circumstances may be, you are not forgotten. No matter how dark your days may seem, no matter how insignificant you may feel, no matter how overshadowed you think you may be, your Heavenly Father has not forgotten you. In fact, He loves you with an infinite love."
"Glimpses of Heaven"
Topic: Happiness in the Gospel
This talk is one I was not familiar with until I read it (and listened to it) for this post. It touched my heart deeply. In it, President Kimball recalls a conversation he had with another man who had asked him if he had ever been to Heaven. President Kimball responded by saying yes and then recounting numerous, everyday, stories of faithful Saints succeeding in their roles, trying their best and trying to follow Jesus. it is a sweet talk and a sweet reminder of what we can do if we try our best.
Favorite Quote: "“Heaven was in my own home, too...when home evening was held. Through the years the room was filled with our children, when each, eager for a turn, sang a song, led a game, recited an Article of Faith, told a story, and listened to faith-promoting incidents and gospel teaching from parents who loved them."
by F. Burton Howard
April 2003 - LDS General Conference
This is a great talk outlining a number of important parts of an Eternal Marriage. He gives council and advice that he has found helped his marriage of 47 years to his wife.
Favorite Quote: "If you want something to last forever, you treat it differently. You shield it and protect it...You don’t make it common or ordinary. It becomes special because you have made it so, and it grows more beautiful and precious as time goes by. Eternal marriage is just like that. We need to treat it just that way. I pray that we may see it for the priceless gift that it is."
"The Savior Wants to Forgive"
Topic: Forgiveness and the Atonement
I expected this to be a talk about Saints forgiving each other, but it is actually about the Atonement and the Lord's desire to continually forgive us of our personal sins. It is a great reminder we all need!
Favorite Quote: "In this forgiveness we see the enabling and the redeeming power of the Atonement harmoniously and graciously applied. If we exercise faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, the enabling power of His Atonement strengthens us in our moment of need, and His redeeming power sanctifies us as we '[put] off the natural man.' This brings hope to all, especially to those who feel that recurring human weakness is beyond the Savior’s willingness to help and to save."
"Fear Not Little Flock"
by President Howard W Hunter
Topic: Joy in the Midst of Sorrow
This talk addresses one of the hardest parts of my life right now: worry. President Hunter discusses the different areas of life that lead us to stress and worry. His words help us to still work through those worries, while keeping in mind our many blessings. He also gives great advice on how service, both within and outside our homes can lead to a greater lightening of our burdens.
Favorite Quote: "My message to you today is to “fear not, little flock.” It is to encourage you to rejoice in the great blessings of life. It is to invite you to feel the great thrill of gospel living and our Father in Heaven’s love. Life is wonderful, even in the hard times, and there is happiness, joy, and peace at stops all along the way, and endless portions of them at the end of the road."
