The lesson on the Woman at the Well went fabulously...although the 7 and 5 year old were insistent that we know her name...which we don't. That aside, the girls really grasped the story and seemed to connect with the real water vs. living water, which I was concerned about.
But the real break through was towards the end. I bore my testimony about what we gain when we leave worldly wants behind to embrace the commandments of Jesus Christ. My husband added his testimony to mine. And then, in the 2 second pause that followed I felt a little push inside of me to invite my daughter Ella (almost 7) to bear her testimony if she wanted to.
And she did. A first for her. She started with "I want to bear my testimony. I know the church is true..." and then gave a little laugh, like she recognized this was the standard fair. Then she became serious and really shared her feelings about following Jesus and choosing the right. She tapered off at the end and I gently prompted her to end with "..in the name of Jesus Christ, amen". It was amazing and touching and lovely.
I have mentioned before, but it is worth repeating. In my opinion the bearing testimony part of FHE is the most important. I give tips for sharing your testimony here. Sometimes, it feels awkward, but I know it is important.
