Quote:  Psalm 82:6 - "...All of you are children of the most High".  (Explain that the most High means Heavenly Father.)

Opening Song: I am a Child of God (PCS #2)

Lesson:

Before we come to earth we lived with our Heavenly Father.  We were spirits there. A spirit is what is inside of us that makes us alive. When we were spirits, we didn’t have bodies like we have now, but we looked the same.

Heavenly Father is the father of our spirits, and we are his spirit children. We don’t remember living with Heavenly Father before we came to earth, but we know we are his spirit children because we read it in the scriptures.  Every person on the earth is a child of Heavenly Father and that makes each and every person very very special.

Everyone on the earth is different.  We look different, we have different talents and different likes and dislikes.  All of these things make each person special. There is no one on the earth exactly like you.

Birds can fly but cannot swim
Like great fish in the sea.
Rabbits hop but cannot swing
Like monkeys in a tree.

I can sing but cannot run
As fast as Sue or Ray.
It’s wonderful that each of us
Is special in his way.

- Blanche Boshinski
Some talents you are born with and others you have to work really hard at. No baby is born knowing how to play the piano, but many people work hard, practice and learn from others until they become talented at piano and can share that talent with others.

Once we know what our talents are we should do our very best to make them grow, to use them to help others and to help the church grow and be strong.

Sometimes it is easy to look at someone else and think that they have more talents than you, look the way you want to look or have things you want. But Heavenly Father made you just the way you are for an important reason. He needs you to use the talents he has given you to make the world a better place.

Bear your testimony about our divine heritage as children of God and that each one of us has many talents, both seen and unseen that we can use to make the world a better place.

(For tips on sharing your testimony please click here.)

Practice Song: If you are teaching your family the MARCH Song of the Month, go over the words and music with your family.

Thank you for doing the work for the lessons. I love that my children can take turns giving the lessons because they are simple enough for them to understand - and the lessons focus on what they are learning in primary!

Thank you so much! I was so excited to find your site. Our family goal for the year is to have family home evening every week, but unfortunately I usually remember about it about 6:00 Monday night. This makes it so easy to have a lesson ready even when I forget to be prepared!

We had the BEST time!!! my husband had to work, and her husband is recently deployed, so it was just us mamas and 6 boys between the two of us. I didn't get any pictures, but all the boys loved cutting and gluing and then playing dart guns afterwards. :) The spirit was here in our home, and I know my new friend who is less active felt the Spirit. We've made plans to do this a few times each month! THANK YOU!!!

Thanks again for another great lesson! The boys loved picking the things that they were good at and it was fun to see what THEY thought their talents were and the talents were so fun. I blogged about it here: http://marcroftfam.blogspot.com/2012/08/cmon-everybody-its-family-night.html
