Year 01/Lesson 35 : We Can Teach Others

8.28.2010

What You'll Need: scriptures, printed activity for each child, coloring tools, glue stick, scissors, colored paper, flashlight.

Scripture: 1 Timothy 4:12 - ...be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.

Opening Song: The Things I Do (PCS #170 )

Lesson: This month we have been learning about people and places where we learn and those who teach us. But did you know that you can teach others as well? No matter how old you are, you can teach others by showing them things you can do and by being a good example.

Teaching Others in the Home - You can teach others in our home by teaching the Family Home Evening lesson when it's your turn. You can also teach your brothers and sister things that you know. Being a good example to younger siblings helps them to learn what is right.

(Go around the room and tell a way in which each family member is an example of righteous living)

Teaching Others in our Neighborhood - In school and in our neighborhood you can be a good example to those who are not members of our church. You can do this by using clean language, being kind to others, serving others and telling your friends what you believe.

Teaching Others in our Ward - One thing that is great about our church is that we are called upon to teach and help each other. You give talks in Primary and are assigned prayers, scriptures and other tasks. When you do those things that are asked of you cheerfully and with careful thought, you teach your friends in our Ward the gospel.

(You may choose to talk about each parent's current church calling, what it entails and the blessings you have received by serving in that calling.)

When we teach others through service or through example we are becoming more like the Savior. When we serve others and make good decision, the Light of Christ shines from us and helps all those around us.

Show a flashlight or other small light. Turn it on and discuss how the light from the flashlight helps people as it shines. Read aloud the first phrase of 3 Nephi 12:16. Explain to the children that they are like little lights when they set good examples, because other people watch and follow them. Let one child hold the flashlight and lead the others around the room. Repeat until every child who wants to be the leader has had a turn.

Bear your testimony about serving in the church and being an example for good.

Practice Song: If you are teaching your family the August Song of the Month, go over the words and music with your family.

Great lesson. I loved this month's topic. My oldest is a persistent teacher. My youngest is a charismatic teacher. It's been neat seeing that difference acutely in FHE. Thanks again!

What is going on with the 4 shared program. It keeps taking me to a place to download a program for watching video trailers and such. How do you download the pictures for the activities?
