Our wk 10 Follow-Up

So, try as we might, our girls (age 5 and 3) could not seem to connect with the story of Esther. I wonder if some of the concepts are just too difficult for this age to grasp.
Did anyone else have that problem?

I think first, there is a problem of explaining Jewish people, since they are both a religion and a race. And (this part is happy) my girls were having a hard time grasping that the King's servant could hate a collected group of people.

Secondly, they seemed unable to grasp that Esther might be in some sort of danger just from attempting to speak with the king (her husband). So we plowed forward, but this was something to keep in mind for future lessons.

However, the crown making was a BIG hit...no surprise there!

We did not get around to the Haman's Hat cookies since my Sunday was jam packed with responsibilities as a Relief Society Counselor, including my giving a lesson on pornography...everyone's favorite lesson to teach! LOL!

And, of course, the Academy Awards were Sunday night, which is the equivalent of my SuperBowl. I was much too busy assessing the red carpet fashion to make cookie dough!

You were right...the crowns were a hit! I don't think my 2 & 4 yr old boys really connected with Ester either, but my 4 yr old seemed to be thinking about being courageous and praying for help from Heavenly Father to be strong and brave. :) LOVED the lesson, and wish I would have prepared more, because I think I could have learned more from her example. :) Thanks, again!

I'm so glad we weren't alone in the struggles of this lesson. As a mom, I was happy to be reminded of Esther. For the girls (4 and 7) they were just happy to get to color crowns.

Yes! We had the same problem. Isaac said "What's a Jew?" and for the life of me I could not answer him in a direct and simple way. They also loved making the crowns though. And my mother-in-law was here and she said she thought it was a great idea to do this lesson, so even if they had trouble understanding, at least they heard the message and a relatively unknown story.
