About

Started in 2009, A Year of FHE is a place for LDS families to find well-planned, easy, and adaptable Family Home Evening lesson plans to make holding regular FHE simple and meaningful.  If you are struggling to find time to do it all, but desire to have consistent Family Home Evenings then you are going to love this site!

You'll find 3 full year of lesson plans at your fingertips. You can search by topic, if your family has a particular need, or follow along with the weekly lessons as they are posted here each Sunday. Besides 125+ free FHE plans, this site also offers free printables, inspiration, articles to make your LDS life easier, quick and delicious recipes for less stressful mealtimes, Utah-based family activites, and much more!

What started as a simple family project has turned into something much more.  A Year of FHE has been featured on multiple media outlets including Mormon.org, Deseret News, The Salt Lake Tribune, KSL 5 news, and many more.  In 2008 our family was interviewed and filmed for a feature on ABC World News Tonight with Diane Sawyer.  You can see that clip here.

I started this blog in 2009 because I had 2 toddlers at home and we never had Family Home Evening. I felt it was so important, but I just couldn't find time or energy in my daily life to get it done. In December 2009 I came up with a plan to pre-write a month's worth of FHEs and then when I was so stressed on Monday nights it was already printed and ready. It worked! We had Family Home Evenings every week in 2010! And it made a huge difference in our family life. We were kinder, nicer, closer, and more connected to the Spirit.

So we kept going and eventually I had written and shared 3 years worth of lessons!  My greatest goal is that this blog helps make your life easier, gives you tools to teach your family, and have some fun along the way.

I love reading, crafting, red lipstick, and short hair. I am much too loud for polite society. I am an extrovert that loves time with close friends and having lots of fun. I hope the things I share here free up your time to do the things you love! The very best part of this blog are my readers so stop by my Facebook or Instagram and say HELLO!

Our family recently moved from Philadelphia back to Utah in 2014 to be near my husband's family. My husband, Matt, is a Health Administrator.  We have five kids with fake internet names: Chicken (13), Banjo 11), Bonkers (7), McMudo (4), and SeeSaw (3).

We do our best to have a peaceful and loving family, but we have days like everyone else, when the house is a mess, the kids are fighting and the Mommy is frazzled. We feel that having consistent Family Home Evenings will bless our lives, teach our children and bring us closer to each other and to our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.

We are members of THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS, commonly known as Mormons and abbreviated LDS. We are Christians and seek to come together as families to praise God, learn of His teachings, follow Jesus Christ and be good and kind people.

Thank you so much for all the time and effort you put into the FHE plans. When I picture our family doing FHE I want it to be well planned, organized and have it keep the attention of my small children. I work full-time and I just can't seem to find the time (or prioritize well) to plan FHE ahead of time. Your hard work allows me to provide my family with quality lessons and activities while not taking away from my time during the rest of the week when I am trying to focus on so much. Thank you!

You have a beautiful family! I do have one question, how are you Christian and Mormon?

Emilie said...

Anonymous - Great question! When I say "Christian" I mean that we believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and the Savior of the World. We believe that his sacrifice allows us to return to the presence of God. We study about Christ in the scriptures and try to follow his teachings.

Thank you for your response. I have an Aunt, Uncle and many cousins who are Mormon and I guess I just wonder why it is so important to call yourselves "Christian" when I who am a believer and not Mormon, see the difference. There is a lot of the same words and "Christian" ideas that you talk about but the heart of the meaning is different which makes the whole thing different.

I just came across your site looking for coloring pages to teach a group of children about emergencies and calling 9-1-1. When I found your lesson with the coloring page I was so excited! I will now be exploring your site and plan to implement my own family night; which has been a goal of mine for a while now. Thanks so much for sharing your ideas, this is truly a blessing!

Emilie, I just wanted to express a heart felt thank you for all your time and work in providing a site for desperate moms, such as myself, who are looking for FHE lessons to teach their young children. I was raised LDS but was never had FHE's when I was a child, so having never had them when I was a child, I had no clue where to begin when I became a mom and wanted my children to learn gospel principles. Thanks for being that angel who helped me find lessons that will hopefully help my little ones develop their testimonies, one lesson at a time. Keep the lessons coming.
