Before you do anything else it will be helpful to read the talk, More Diligent and Concerned at Home, by Elder Bednar. It emphasizes the purpose of FHE and gives hope for those times when you're not sure if what you are teaching is sinking in (like every single week!).

Download and print an FHE Assignment Chart. Downloadable for free HERE and there's another design HERE. It is important to share responsibilities, even with very young children. Click the link above to download FHE charts for families with between 4 and 10 members.  Full instructions are included beneath download options.

Posting Schedule

SUNDAY is when I publish the Family Home Evening lesson for the week. This way you have time to print any materials, make arrangements and do pre-lesson assignments if needed.

On TUESDAY and THURSDAY there will be new posts with other information.  This could be family-friendly recipes, printables and handouts for your callings, family activites you can do together with all ages, ideas for FHE's even when you don't have kids at home, LDS book reviews, crafts for kids, interviews with amazing LDS authors, bloggers, etc. I may also occasionally share some activities or places to visit in Utah. I know not all of my audience is Utah-based, but a lot of them are!

SATURDAY - I will share myself.  What I have been thinking about that week. Which parts of motherhood are kicking my butt. Spiritual insights I had that week. What challenges and triumphs we are facing as a family. And I sincerely hope you will share YOU.  I hope you will leave comments and share all of those things about YOUR life.  Because I like to know I'm not alone just like we all do! And I want to share in YOUR triumphs!  Because that's how we connect and grow and learn and uplift each other.  And, really, is there a better way to make life a little bit better than that?

Finding Lessons

1. Each week the YEARLY PLANS post will be updated so that the most recent lesson titles are now a link to that lesson.

2. You can search by topic in the right hand column under TOPICS.

3. You can do a more sweeping search of topics on the site using the SEARCH BAR in the right hand column of the blog.

Site Tabs Explained

HOME - Takes you to the most recent blog post.

HELPS - This tab has additional resources to help make your family's FHE experience easier. There are links to helpful websites, product recommendations and hints.

FREE LESSON PLANS - I planned out themes and lesson topics for the entire year (for 3 years). Click this tab on top to see an overview of the entire year.  If you are following along for an entire month you will notice a Monthly Theme. The theme is a central topic which all lessons and activities will be structured around.  Each month also has a SONG OF THE MONTH which supports the monthly theme. This is a song I want my children to really learn well. We practice our S.O.T.M. after the lesson portion of our Family Home Evening each week. Every Song of the Month will have a printable poster, word chart or teaching idea to help your kids learn the words.

MY FREEBIES - This has an easy list of download-able freebies I have designed specifically for this site.  Feel free to use them and share them with others.  However, lesson plans, themes and original artwork may NOT be reproduced for SALE or for any financial gain.

COLORING PAGES - This is s huge list, sorted alphabetically, of coloring and activity pages from the Children's Friend magazine and from my own site.  Since I made this list in 2010, the church has redesigned it's website, making some of the links broken.  I am doing my best to update the links, but I suggest if you find a broken link to go to lds.org and search by keyword.

RECIPES - This is new to the blog and will be added to as new recipes are shared by me.  At the bottom of each recipe I include which ingredients can be found at the Bishop's Storehouse for those who are currently using that valuable resource.

ABOUT - Here's where you can learn a little bit about me and my family.  As the blog author I know you want to know a bit about me.  You can always ask me questions via email at aYEARofFHE at gmail dot com.

How to Participate

Obviously the content on this site is free for all who find it helpful. I choose to do this on my own time to help MY family's goal of having FHE 100%, but also to help others. But I would like something in return....positive feedback.

Leave Comments - I would LOVE to know that my efforts are making a difference in your life. If you print and use a FHE lesson, please come back and leave a comment on that lesson! If you download a FREEBIE, please give me a shout out!

Tell Others - Share this site with members of your Ward, relatives near and far and even non-member families. Wouldn't it be fun if extended families followed the same FHE schedule each week and could share experiences between cousins, siblings and Grandparents? Write a blurb on your blog, grab a site button (available in the side bar), and share through Facebook.

Share Experiences - I suggest that all families take pictures of their FHE experiences each week. Wouldn't this be a wonderful record to look back on in years to come of your best and most righteous efforts to teach your children? I would love to feature families from all over the country and the world, using these lessons, activities and resources on this blog.  To see how to be featured on this site please read following section.

Be Featured

Readers can email me photos/experiences of their own family using the lessons and activities found on this blog. Your submissions may be featured on this blog or on Instagram!

If you choose the magnet idea, they also work great for "quiet" activities on the back of the folding chairs at church...yes, we are usually late and sit in the back, and I found this out by accident! :D Thanks so much for the awesome site! I am really excited to use some of your ideas to better our FHE's!

What a wonderful service that you give!!! Being a mom to many (10) I don't have a lot of time, or money, to do something as beautiful and wonderful as this in this season of my life, making our FHE's almost non-existent. I appreciate the hard work you give that goes into these! This will make allowing my children to pick and teach their own FHE very simple, and will allow me a bit more freedom. Thank you again!!! MANY thanks and Best wishes!
